Fractions are a part of whole. A whole can be an object, shape or a group of objects.

Numerator and Denominator

Types of Fractions

There are 6 types of Fractions:-

  • Proper fractions
  • Improper fractions
  • Mixed fractions
  • Equivalent fractions
  • Like fractions
  • Unlike fractions
  • Proper fractions:-

In Proper fractions the numerator is less than the denominator. Eg. ¼.

  • Improper fractions:-

In Improper fractions the numerator is greater than the denominator.

  • Mixed fractions:-

Mixed fractions are a mix of the integer part and a proper noun. Eg. 1¼.

  • Equivalent fractions:-

When we multiply or divide the numerator and denominator of fraction by the same number, then the fraction we get is called equivalent fraction to the first one. Eg. ¼ and 2/8 are equivalent fractions.

  • Like fractions:-

Fractions with the same denominators are called like fractions.

  • Unlike fractions:-

Fractions with different denominators are called unlike fractions.

How to convert Improper fractions to mixed fractions

  • Divide the numerator with the denominator.
  • The quotient(answer) is the number.
  • The divisor is the denominator.
  • And the remainder is the numerator.

Bird Beaks

Do you think all the birds have same beaks? No they don’t. Their beaks depend on the food they eat.

Types of bird beaks:-

  • Cracker beak – Cracker beak is used to crack nuts. Hawks have cracker beaks.
  • Chisel beak Chisel beak is used to catch insects. Woodpeckers have chisel beaks.
  • Probing beak – Probing beak is used to suck nectar from flowers. Humming birds have probing beaks.
  • Spear beak – Spear beak is used to catch fish. Kingfishers have spear beaks.
  • Hooked beak – Hooked beak is used to catch rats and other small animals. Eagles have hooked beaks.
  • Strainer beak – Strainer beak is also used to catch fish. Ducks have strainer beaks.

Importance of bird beaks:-

  • Bird beaks are used to build their nest.
  • Bird beaks are used to feed their young ones.
  • Bird beaks are used to catch prey.

Why can’t my turtle open it’s eyes?

Your turtle can’t open it’s eyes because of Vitamin A deficiency.

Symptoms :

The eyes can get swollen and puffy.

Treatment:-

  • Give the turtle some foods that contain Vitamin A. like carrots, tomatoes, etc.
  • Give your turtle I-Care eye drops.

Apply one or two drops per eye each day for one week.

Your turtle should be feeling better in 1 week. If not, show your turtle to a vet.

Labrador Dogs

Labrador dogs are the best dogs to take care of. Labrador dogs are sniffers. A Labrador dog’s lifespan is 12 years – 13 years.

The average height of a Labrador dog is 56–57 cm and Weight is 29–36 kg. Labradors have different colours. Some are black, some are light brown, some are white. Labrador dogs love to play with chew toys. The Best shop for dog toys, food and spa is Heads up for tails.

Taking care of Labrador dogs

Taking care of a Labrador dog is a little hard.

  • You should walk your dog everyday or once in a week.
  • You should give your dog a bath once in a month.
  • You should feed your dog three times a day.
  • When your dog feels bored, give him a chew toy.

Trees and plants grow without being sown by the process of Seed Dispersal.

Process of seed dispersal-

  • The seed of a tree/plant falls on the ground.
  • The seed is dispersed by Animals, water or wind.
  • The seed becomes a new tree/plant.

Types of seeds dispersed by the Agents

  • Water – coconut (coconut is the seed of coconut tree), lotus seed etc.
  • Wind – Milkweed seeds and other types of light seeds
  • Animals – Mango seeds, Hazelnut, walnut, peanut etc.
  • Birds – Sunflower seeds, Orange seeds etc.

Ladybugs

Ladybugs are beautiful bugs. Some of them are poisonous and some are not. Ladybugs are seen from spring until fall. They are found in tree trunks. When the weather is cold, they look for a safe and warm place to hibernate. They lay eggs in the fall. A ladybug lifespan is 1 year.

Ladybugs protect your garden/balcony from being destroyed by aphids, ants etc. Aphids are tiny insects that destroy plants.

Their spots warn the predators to stay away. Ladybugs can eat 5,000 aphids over its lifetime.

Butterfly pea flower

Butterfly pea flower is a beautiful blue flower which also has many medicinal uses. This flower grows on vine and in the flowering season it looks beautiful with lot of flowers. It derives its name from how it looks like a butterfly.

We can make Butterfly pea flower tea at home.

Recipe for making this tea is as follows:-

  1. Boil a cup of water
  2. Turn off heat.
  3. Add six to eight dried butterfly pea flower to the hot water.
  4. Let it stay for five to ten minutes.
  5. Remove the flowers and enjoy this lovely blue tea!
